Simple Retail Display Tricks to Boost Your Sales

Shops are back open and Covid restrictions are loosening so now is the time to go all out and bring those shoppers back through the doors again. If you want to stand out from the high street crowds you need to ensure your retail display is as enticing as possible, but you will also want to be able to do so on a budget. Money is tight in the industry, but here are some simple tricks to bring customers in and get them to spend more cash!

  • Allow Customers to Touch the Products

One of the key advantages that high street shops have over internet retailers is that you can see, touch and hold the products you are looking for before you buy. You don’t just click ‘ORDER’ and then have to cross your fingers. You can see how it feels in your hands right there before you make the purchase.

Play into this. Don’t hide away the products and make people have to ask for a closer inspection. Use counters, shelves and slatwall displays to show shoppers exactly what your products are like in the flesh. If they can have a little demonstration too, then all the better!

  • Remember to Upsell

Upselling the customer means that you make more money. Simple. All you need to do is convince them to spend more money than they were expecting to. Less simple, but definitely possible.

Your displays help with this. Fashion retailers virtually all use shop mannequins, which are great for displaying garments. They also provide an opportunity to show customers the accessories and other items that complement the garment, sowing the seed in the shopper’s head that they should buy them together.

You could also add a slatwall or gridwall display next to certain items, holding giftcards. If you place them next to luxury or gift items, such as big toys or premium clothing, it can encourage a shopper to buy a gift card for a friend or family member’s next big celebration, inspired by the items that they might like to buy for themselves.  The shopper may not be completely confident that the item would be right for their loved one, but buying a giftcard means that they can choose for themselves.

  • Make Your Displays Immersive

Although having separate displays around the store is fine, creating a flow between them brings much more of a pleasurable customer experience. Match the wall colour to the clothing, place the mannequins in positions that tell a story, pick an overriding theme and think about how they each play into that theme.

This is another aspect of retail that physical shops can do, but online stores can’t. You can engulf the customer into the world that you create and all it takes is a bit of imagination and a lick of paint or two.

  • Stay Mobile

If your retail displays are mobile and you can move them around without too many issues, you can constantly innovate to keep things interesting without having to buy new fittings every time. You can add in new products and change the flow of the shop. Simply by wheeling around your garment rails or display cases, you can change the feel of the shopfloor and prioritise products that you want to promote. It will even give customers a new perspective on the items that have been out previously. A new light and angle can help shoppers see products in a new light, even ones they have rejected before.

You can also adjust the shopfloor to make it more user friendly. If you notice there are pinch points or dead ends, you can eradicate them and improve your customer experience, which makes people more likely to spend longer in store and, therefore, make purchases.

  • Dress Your Displays With Simple Accessories

There is no rule to say that your displays have to only feature items that you have for sale. Make them more visually arresting by adding items such as fresh flowers or plants. These add to the impact of the image you create and provide a perfect backdrop to your mannequins and other display fittings.

This, in turn, makes the shop seem a more calm and inviting place, subconsciously relaxing people into spending more time perusing the displays and, hopefully, deciding on purchases.
